The Complete Buyer’s Guide to Custom Steering Wheel Covers

A wheel cover is touched more than anything else in a vehicle and specified less than almost anything else. Four questions fix that.

Measure twice, literally

Rim diameter and rim thickness. Thickness is where covers actually fail.

If a supplier only asks for one number, they are guessing.

Decide how it holds on

Laced covers are stitched to the rim and cannot rotate.

Stretch-on covers hold by tension, which only works when sized.

Specify for a hot car

Coated finishes go tacky then flake; thin silicone hardens.

Ask about heat stability and colourfastness, not about softness in a showroom.

Put the mark in the material

Debossed, embroidered, woven or moulded.

Printed graphics do not survive the most-touched surface in the car.

Then choose the finish

Leather, microfibre, neoprene, silicone — all safely secondary to the four above.
